“Those who want to be rich are falling into temptation and into a trap
and into many foolish and harmful desires,
which plunge them into ruin and destruction.” (1 Tim 6:9)
The Greek word for plunge here refers to overburdening a ship, causing it to sink and create a shipwreck. See Luke 5:7: “They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking.”
St. Paul’s point: greed overburdens our hearts and causes them to be shipwrecked along our journey to Heaven…
This past Lent I had the joy of presenting a mission on my upcoming book Stepping on the Serpent: The Journey of Trust with Mary at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Converse, Texas. In preparation for the official release of the book on Oct. 5, the Feast of St. Faustina Kowalska, every Thursday I will post a presentation from the mission.
In this week’s presentation, I talk about examples of trust from the Gospels – specifically St. Peter and Our Lady.
